About The North High Alumni Association

The North High Alumni Association (NHAA) started to take shape in 2003 after a few alums played golf in a North High fund raising event organized by coaches Mike Ross and Al Petway who needed to purchase supplies and equipment for their teams.

Just after that day, we began talking about the fact that our alma mater always had many rich traditions that were supported by a strong community spirit. We realized that many of the very things that made our high school experience so memorable, were now in jeopardy of being lost because there was no formal organization to help maintain them. After several meetings the NHAA was established. Its mission would be two-fold. The first objective would be to raise funds that would provide scholarships for deserving students, materials and equipment for academics, athletics and the arts, and support school related projects. The second objective would be to reconnect graduates through alumni events.

Our first event - a dinner social at Mount Carmel Recreation Center, in November of 2003 - was a huge success. The proceeds enabled the NHAA to award five $500.00 scholarships and six $300.00 grants by May of 2004. Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time reconnecting with old friends. This success led to our second and third Alumni Scholarship dinners that were attended by more than 200 ‘Polar Bears’ and friends. We were able to provide six $500.00 scholarships in 2004 & 2005 and awarded $3,600.00 in grants to faculty members and coaches.

After considering feedback from past attendees, the committee decided to take a different approach in 2006 continuing in 2007. The first & second NHAA Golf Tournaments were held at Green Hill.  The golfers were then joined by spouses and alums for dinner at the former ITAM Club in 2006.  In 2007 we also held a separate dinner in the evening back at Mount Carmel where spouses and other alumni joined us for a great dinner and more socializing.  We have again been able to continue awarding six $500 scholarships to deserving students as well as providing support for various groups at school that didn’t have other funding.

2008 - A year to reflect on our purpose and still able to give six $500 scholarships.

2009 - Golf was back and so was our granting of six $500 scholarships as well as several grant requests.  We also held our first Patriot ticket raffle with the winner receiving two tickets to 8 home games and VIP privileges at these games.

2010 - Golf will be on June 4th at Leicester Hills Country Club and we will be having the Patriot raffle again.
